Meet the Team

The Bright Lights Theatre story began when our Founders, Lauren Hensarling and Megan Karr met at Dallas Theological Seminary in 2017. They quickly became friends and realized their mutual love for theater and their similar calling to walk alongside families as they train up the next generation to be followers of Jesus Christ. Thus, a lifelong dream of Lauren and Megan's became Bright Lights Theatre in the Spring of 2019. This educational platform would not be possible without the incredible Board of Directors and Staff that have poured into Bright Lights. God has been so good to have directed Bright Light's steps here and we are trusting in him as we aim to glorify his name by training the next generation as masterful storytellers and bright lights for Christ in this dark and broken industry.

Lauren Hensarling
Executive Director

Lauren is originally from Bossier City, Louisiana.  She grew up in the world of children's theatre, acting and directing in multiple capacities.  Lauren moved to Arkadelphia, Arkansas where she graduated undergrad with a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre from Ouachita Baptist University and met her husband, Jacob. They moved to Dallas in 2017 where Lauren obtained a Master's in Media Arts and Worship from Dallas Theological Seminary.  She is currently working full-time as an Executive Director at Bright Lights Theatre.

She grew up in a Christian home and is grateful for her story of the Lord's protection and provision that came with choosing to follow Jesus at a young age.  She loves deep breaths (which are few and far between in the busy pace of Dallas), studying Scripture through watercolor, stage combat, sunny days, and watching movies with her husband. She is passionate about helping students learn how to masterfully craft stories and discover characters that can change the lives of those around them!

Megan Karr
Executive Director

Megan is from Tomball, Texas (urban sprawl of Houston) but moved to Dallas in 2017. She currently works at Providence Christian School of Texas as a Class Two Teacher and serves as one of Bright Lights' Executive Directors. Megan obtained a Bachelor's degree in English with a minor in Theater Studies from Missouri State University, a Master's in Christian Education from Dallas Theological Seminary, and has worked for over a decade in children's theater as both a writer and director. She currently has two published books, Save a Life and Lines and Lyrics

As you could probably assume, Megan loves to write, view and participate in theater, as well as see movies, spend time with friends and family, and cuddle with her sweet cat Emma. She came to know the Lord at the age of five and is thankful for her parents and their discipleship throughout her life. In hearing the Gospel at a young age, she is passionate about telling the next generation the glorious deeds of the Lord that they also may believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Megan is thankful that God brought Lauren and her together and has allowed them to share the passion and vision of Bright Lights Theatre. She is excited to see how Bright Lights will impact the lives of the students and families that attend its programs.

Allison was born and raised in South Florida.  She grew up ten minutes from the beach and misses being close to the water every single day.  She fell in love with theatre in high school, and went on to attend the University of Florida where she received a Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts and a Masters degree in Business Management.  After graduating, she packed her bags and moved to New York City, where she pursued musical theatre while waiting tables and living in a shoebox-sized apartment.  While in New York, she met her now husband, Chris, and they moved to Dallas right after their wedding.

Allison attends Northway Church and helped start Musical Theatre Camp in 2018.  She loves to watch children discover and use their talents to glorify the Lord.  In her free time, Allison loves spending time with her husband and three spunky little ones, eating delicious food, working out and thinking about the beach!

Becca Godkin

Becca has lived in Dallas for more than a decade, having moved here for a job as a brand planner at The Richards Group. She currently works as a freelance copyeditor. Her credentials include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, a Master of Science degree in Advertising, and a lifelong love of music and the theater. Becca and her husband Blake are members of Northway Church in Dallas and are currently in the foster-to-adopt process.

Becca grew up in a Christian home, knowing Jesus as Savior from a young age. An invitation from her high school choir director to join his church's sanctuary choir marked the start of her taking more personal responsibility for her faith walk, and music continues to be an important part of her worship of the Lord. She loves fall colors and candles, warm cookies, and British tv shows. She is excited to partner with Bright Lights to see future generations grow in their love of Jesus and their experience of the arts.

Rachel Hamilton is originally from Minnesota, where she studied business marketing at Bethel University. While attending Bethel, she sang in the choir, took voice lessons, and performed in the musicals. She went on to get her Masters from John Brown University in Arkansas in youth and family ministry.  She moved to Dallas after working for Kanakuk camps, where she met her husband Jordan Hamilton.

She attends Northway Church with her family and has helped start Musical Theater Camp.  Her passion is to see kids have fun while learning more about their role in the Kingdom of God. In her free times she loves to cook, hang out with her family and travel.  She can't wait to spend time with the kids of Bright Lights Theatre.

Jacob Hensarling
Set Construction Chair
2021 Bright Lights June Camp-200.jpg

Jacob is originally from Allen, Texas. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with his Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education. Jacob is currently working as a middle school math teacher in DISD. He had not ever seen a play until he started dating Lauren. He is, however, extremely supportive and offers a non-arts perspective on Bright Lights affairs. We are grateful for his outside the box ideas and fresh insights.

Jacob was raised by parents who love the Lord and instilled that love in him from a young age. In high school, Jacob had to make a conscious decision to follow his friends or follow the Lord. He chose to continue in relationship with God and landed at OBU.  He loves woodworking, teaching, swimming, and watching TV with his wife. Because of his story, Jacob is passionate about loving on and guiding middle and high school students in their walk with the Lord!
